church street meat and other things....

This morning was a slow day at the clinic, however I did get a lot of reading done. This evening Christine,(one of the other interns) Rebecca ( a volunteering midwife) and I went to John Ray's church. John Ray is one of the midwives at the clinic, really cool guy. We took a Jeepney and then this side car thing attached to a motorcycle to get there. Supposedly the sidecars are more dangerous than the busses, but they sure are fun to ride in. Everyone drives so close together here, I'm still amazed that I haven't seen any crashes.
The sermon was in english, as I was surprised to discover, ( even though a lot of people speak english here) and it was about finding fulfillment through obeying God's will for your life. One thing quote in particular stood out to me: one of the speakers said when he was talking about the importance of spending time studying the Bible, " you hear about learning to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, but how can you learn to trust someone you don't know?" It really struck me as profound, because it's totally true. How do you learn to trust someone you don't know? And on the flip side, it means that building your relationship with God, learning about his character and seeing Him work in your life will help you learn to trust in Him.
After church, before taking the bus home, we stopped at a stand while I bought some street meat for dinner. By the way, deep fried chicken gizzards on a stick are delicious. I wasn't brave enough to try the chicken heads though.
another great day in the Philippines!
